Offerings of devotion

“A leaf, a flower, a fruit, or even water, offered to me in devotion, I will accept as the loving gift of a dedicated heart.”

These loving words were spoken by Lord Krishna to his devotee Arjuna in Chapter 9 of the Bhagavad Gita (the Hindu Bible if you like).  It was written centuries before the Christian Bible, and at a time of higher spiritual attunement to God.  The sentiments are clear:  if a person is sincerely seeking God, determinedly trying to be a better person each day, meditating regularly and deeply, this person need not offer gifts of material wealth to God. Rather, seekers are encouraged to offer up everything they think, do, say, eat, drink, see, touch and so on, even and especially the smallest thing, so that we realise that it is God Himself that is behind everything.

Have a great weekend everyone.

The Wizard Sun

How the old Mountains drip with Sunset
How the Hemlocks burn –
How the Dun Brake is draped in Cinder
By the Wizard Sun
Emily Dickinson

I’m fascinated by sunsets.  But what happens at the curtain call of day?  Is it a period of rest for the cosmos in preparation for another bright new day?  Of course not, because as the sun sets in our part of the world, it rises in another!  Our star (the sun) never rests.   It beams out an unending source of energy.  Continue reading

Trusted friend and guide

Do you have a friend whose advice you trust implicitly?  Are they on the physical or spiritual plane?  For some, this friend may be what they call their guardian angel; for others, it may be God; for others still it may be a friend with whom they have almost a psychic link.   Whichever meaning you give to “trusted friend and guide”, my hope today is that you may continue to be guided by their intuition, wisdom and love in everything you do!   Enjoy my poem.  Much love, Anita.

Angel by my Side

When I stop doing and sit quietly
just being, I feel you by my side
trusted friend and guide.

Towering over me
your wings enfolding me
in a loving embrace
as a parent to a child.

My scalp tickles at your touch
causing smiles of surrender
all over this body.

Such benevolence! Such grace!
Your breath pours over me
soothing my muscles
loosening my joints
quietening the mind
unlocking the soul.

May your light flow through me
sending healing to all.
Give me strength to work with you
in service to all.
Be by my side always
to catch me when I fall.

Change

Whatever our circumstances, we all face change in our lives. None of us is the person we once were. This took me some time to realize. At first, when illness changes your life you can easily drown in self-pity and/or anger.  Read on to see how change can be such a positive event in life, making space for the new…. Continue reading
